TFWA Cannes 2026 | Insight Report

From beauty technology and travel-focused skincare to a rapidly broadening fragrance market, BeautyNavigator reports from Cannes on the brands, launches and developments shaping global beauty travel retail.

From September 27 to October 1, TFWA World Exhibition & Conference brought the global duty-free and travel-retail industry back to Cannes, welcoming 8,011 visitors from 185 countries, 482 exhibiting companies and 54 first-time exhibitors.

For beauty and fragrance, TFWA remains one of the industry's most important international launchpads. On the exhibition floor and throughout Cannes, established groups, independent houses and emerging brands launch new products, develop partnerships and advance international distribution.

Beyond the Product: Beauty Becomes a System

On the TFWA floor we observed the blurring of traditional boundaries between beauty product, technology and service. At ANY Skin, BeautyNavigator tested a system where the retail interaction goes beyond recommending a skincare product: the personalized formula is bottled directly at the point of sale. A second system applies the same model to complexion products through custom skin-tone matching.

At Japanese beauty-tech company CHOUOHC we saw a different approach with Morpho, pairing its premium beauty device with dedicated serum, gel, booster and mask treatments. The device is not positioned as an accessory to an existing routine; hardware and formulations are designed to work as one treatment ecosystem. At Rituals, spa-style treatment pods brought another component into the equation, connecting the brand's products with the wellness rituals they are designed to support.

These concepts suggest a broader opportunity for beauty retail. The offer is expanding beyond a finished product toward systems that combine product, treatment, technology and service. For travel retail, this creates new ways to engage consumers while also giving brands opportunities to build relationships that can continue beyond the initial purchase.

Beauty Targets a Multigenerational Consumer

Younger consumers were an increasingly visible consideration across categories in Cannes, influencing product texture, packaging, fragrance concepts and communication. What stood out was not simply brands targeting Gen Z and Gen Alpha, but how some were doing so without narrowing their appeal to one generation.

At BABOR, the new Gel Cream was presented to BeautyNavigator with younger skincare consumers specifically in mind, from its tactile packaging to the sensory character of the formula. For an established professional-skincare brand built around efficacy, the approach brings a more immediate and experiential dimension to the product without moving away from its skincare expertise.

Free Vola applied the same multigenerational thinking to fragrance. Milky Matcha, Pistachio Crash and My Cherry Bomb use color, gourmand references and personality-led messaging designed to connect with younger consumers, while the brand told BeautyNavigator that the fragrances themselves were developed with more sophisticated profiles intended to appeal to older fragrance consumers as well.

The opportunity is not simply to target younger consumers, but to develop products that can engage a new generation without excluding their existing customer base.

Travel Beauty Moves Beyond the Miniature

Travel retail has long relied on smaller formats and travel sets, but some of the more thoughtful products in Cannes approached the journey through use and convenience rather than size alone.

BABOR's travel ampoule sets adapt a professional treatment format for the realities of travel. Glass ampoules including Nutri Restore, Collagen Booster and Lift Express are protected inside a reusable tin with a dedicated opening tool, allowing the professional-skincare format to travel as a complete treatment system. Nutri Restore was also recognized in the 2026 Travel Retail Awards.

House of Soap Lebanon addressed a recognizable travel need with its Loofah Baladi Soap, integrating natural loofah directly into olive-oil soap so cleansing and exfoliation require only one product. Institut Karité's Nova Skin 4-Hour Collagen Mask finds a natural usage occasion during long-haul travel, while OTM Beauty presented Wonderskin in dedicated travel sets, curating the brand's products specifically for the channel.

The common thread is a shift from asking "How do we make this product smaller?" to "How will someone actually use this while travelling?"

Fragrance Finds New Routes to Growth

Fragrance was one of the broadest categories at TFWA Cannes, but the show did not point toward one dominant formula for growth. Instead, brands were expanding the category from very different directions: new collections, retail exclusives, category extensions, strong regional identities and increasingly international distribution.

Alexandre.J presented the evolution of its established Collector universe through the 2026 Elixir Collector, reinterpreting six fragrances with evolved compositions and redesigned presentations. Its Royal Peacock fragrance, created exclusively for Harrods, also highlighted the continuing role of retailer exclusives within prestige fragrance.

Other exhibitors approached growth through established brand identities. L'Erbolario extended Nettare di Dattero across fragrance and body care, La Maison de la Vanille came to Cannes with its latest creations while pursuing new international partnerships, and Atelier Rebul continued to expand its Istanbul-rooted fragrance and lifestyle universe.

Moroccanoil represented another route into the category, presenting its fine-fragrance collection and extending a name established internationally through haircare into perfume. Looking ahead to 2027, Jaclyn Quenstedt of Horizon Beauty gave BeautyNavigator a first look at two new Von Dutch Beauty fragrances for men and women. We had the opportunity to see the finished bottles and smell both fragrances in Cannes, ahead of their official launch.

Cannes showed just how many paths fragrance brands are taking to growth, from collection renewal and retailer exclusives to category extensions and expansion into new international markets.

Middle Eastern Perfumery Expands Its Global Presence

Middle Eastern fragrance had a substantial presence at TFWA Cannes, with Amouage, Arabian Oud, Ajmal Perfumes, Al Haramain Perfumes, Emirates Pride and Armaf among the houses represented. TFWA highlighted the continued international expansion of established Middle Eastern fragrance companies through new launches, airport distribution and growing travel-retail activity.

Dubai-based Armaf unveiled new additions including Club de Nuit Bling, Club de Nuit Lionheart and fragrances within its SHK collection, as the company continues to expand a business now present across more than 140 countries. Ajmal, meanwhile, came to Cannes during another year of travel-retail expansion, including new airport locations opened with Avolta in Birmingham and Cairo.

At the luxury end, Amouage extended its presence beyond the exhibition floor with an "Omani Haven" at the Carlton Cannes, drawing on Omani architecture, landscape, art and frankincense heritage. Emirates Pride also presented its fragrance portfolio to the international travel-retail market, adding another Gulf house to a category whose global reach continues to grow.

Looking Ahead

TFWA Cannes 2026 showed that growth in beauty travel retail is coming from many directions: new technologies, changing consumer expectations, products better adapted to travel, and category expansion.

For brands, the opportunity is to identify where they can bring something genuinely relevant to the channel, whether through the product, the experience or the strength of the brand itself. As travel retail continues to evolve, understanding where a brand can add relevance and value will be increasingly important to its international growth.
